Why Traditional Biofilters Fail

As an industry we have experienced poorly designed biofilters (soilbed, odourbed), particularly the selection of biological growth media has been compromised. As the market shifts to complex food organics, the chemical profile of exhaust gases has changed. Traditional organic media (bark and woodchips) undergo rapid acidification and "ammonia blinding." When ammonia spikes hit an organic bed, the pH shifts drastically, killing the colonising bacteria and turning the filter into a costly, rotting bottleneck.

Chemical Shock Absorber:

Zeolite acts as a "swing adsorber." During sudden spikes in VOCs or H2S (e.g., turning a compost windrow), the FiltaMin media chemically traps the gases until the biological colonies have the time and energy to metabolise them.

Microbial Scaffolding:

Its highly porous structure provides an ideal, protected microhabitat for methanogenic archaea and oxidizing bacteria, keeping them active even during fluctuating loading rates.

Odosense® is an odour monitoring system designed to detect and measure a wide range of odorous gases, even at extremely low concentrations. It continuously monitors critical odorous parameters, offering a complete overview of ambient air quality. The device operates on Oizom’s patented e-breathing technology, a micro-active sampling method that enhances data accuracy and stability.
